Hon. Johnny Ohisa Damian
Mr. Johnny Ohisa Damian is the 1st Deputy Governor in charge of Policy and Banking in the Bank of South Sudan since April 30th 2021. Prior to his appointment by the President of the Republic, Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, Mr Damian was the Director General for Currency and Banking Operations in the Bank of South Sudan from May 17th 2019 to April 30th 2021.
Mr. Damian joined the Bank of South Sudan from International Commercial Bank (ICB-SS) where he served as a Deputy Managing Director and later as Managing Director. Prior to joining ICB-SS, Mr. Damian worked for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) as a Program Budget analyst and later as an Assistance Specialist and later a Senior Acquisition and Assistance Specialist for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Sudan, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Mr. Damian also worked for World Vision International in Kenya.
In December 2001, Mr. Damian was nominated by the SPLA/SPLM leadership to attend the first induction Course on Central Banking at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies in Nairobi. The training did not commence until February 2004. This was in preparation for the establishment of the proposed Central Bank of Southern Sudan.
Mr. Damian began his career with Citibank N.A. Khartoum where he spent 8 years and held a number of positions within the bank.
Mr. Damian holds a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Development Finance from the University of Reading (U.K.) and is a Bachelor Degree (BSc) holder in Banking and Export from Sudan University of Science and Technology, formerly Khartoum Polytechnic, Sudan.
